Maryam

السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ . Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. (Arabic) –  May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you.

In the studio:

I discovered architecture quite late in my education, however that enabled me to
gain skills in other disciplines such as medical photography and prosthetics. I
continuously try to improve myself and aim to be multidisciplinary within my
career, which is why I have experience in landscape architecture, set design
and interior design.

I am currently juggling both working in practice and being a mum: very challenging. Being interested in sustainability I have taken the role of the BREEAM lead on the project I am working on. As I have a passion for rewilding, I have been titled the office horticulturist and tend to all the plants in the office. Being a people person and perfectionist, I have been conversing with several future users of my project and surveying existing units to compare with our proposals. I thoroughly enjoy being part of the family atmosphere of the studio and learning from people who are from all over the world. I am excited by Astudio’s use of technology and exploration which I believe will enabled me to learn new skills and develop my architectural skills.

Amazing fact:

I designed and built a pavilion for the Finnish Institute to celebrate Finland’s 100th Anniversary, which got showcased in the Architectural
Journal. During my Art and Design foundation course, I designed
and sewed a large unfolding bubble which I wore around London to document
people’s reactions for my project, entitled ‘Protection’.

Outside the studio:

You can normally find me in an art gallery sketching or doing photography. I enjoy
capturing natures’ seasonal changes and the evolving sky.

Relationships and family are very important to me, so aside from visiting galleries and trying new cuisines I put time aside for visiting my loved ones.
