Astudio Logo People - Directors - Richard Hyams

Richard established Astudio with his fellow Directors to continue his passion for designing world class buildings following 12 years at Foster and Partners. Through success in a number of large design competitions, Richard and his team have built a strong reputation in high quality design.

Richard joined Foster and Partners following his degree and continued to build his career there following his Diploma from the Bartlett School of Architecture. Richard gained experience in a number of sectors from museums, retail, hotels, offices and special structures. His interest in 3D computer design developed to enable him to deliver the City Hall Project, the first of its type to be delivered using 3D software. This ground breaking project enthused him to develop his practice with a strong three dimension philosophy in both physical and CAD models.

Richard is motivated by unique design challenges. Astudio clients are often surprised and delighted by our innovative lateral thinking to deliver buildings and spaces not thought possible in the tight constraints some of our project briefs demand.

Richard's interest in using sophisticated computer technology means we are able to simulate our proposals from an early stage, this generates a

greater understanding from clients, users and stakeholders. In design competitions this early design development helps to deliver a higher quality design.

Richard is a member of a number of high profile design review panels including, CABE, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Architectural Appraisal Panel, and the Home Office DRP.

As a practice Astudio believe in the development of our team as well as offering our expertise to Universities. As such we teach at University College London and The University of Greenwich.

Richard’s key building experience includes the following:

St Paul’s Way Trust School – London, UK
