Site visit to The Kingston Academy

astudio went to visit The Kingston Academy, an approximately 6,000 sqm high school extension with a STEM specialism (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

It was an intense two hours looking at many aspects of this complex building, together with Elliottwood (structural engineers) and Interserve (site manager) for a multi-disciplinary site experience.

We viewed parts of the aluminium cladding façade at different construction stages, structural connection details, ventilation strategies, architectural details, and the experience of different spaces and their flow from the classrooms to the central courtyard, and their connections with the existing building.

Following the visit, astudio and Elliottwood joined the staff members from the school in the courtyard of the existing building, also refurbished by astudio and opened in 2015, to celebrate the school’s 3rd year anniversary, and their amazing “Outstanding” OFSTED results. Very promising for the new building’s future too.

Such a wonderful afternoon. Cheers!
