Our Story

We set out to be leaders in the industry, and we are delighted to have been awarded Architectural Practice of the Year by Building magazine in recognition of our work. We are a studio full of talented people, with strong backgrounds. The idea that the spark of genius that is needed for every project can come from anyone within the team means that we all have a place of significance within the studio. We have grown as our work has become more recognised and that has taken us to an international level, working across 4 continents, and so we travel where our work takes us.

We have a reputation for being able to listen to the most diverse group of stakeholders in a project and bring them together to shape the project as one voice. This demands skills that are often outside that of the typical architect and we enjoy surprising and delighting our clients with an approach that is as refreshing as it is successful. We can sketch, build models and we can all draw in 3 dimensions as well as being able to document our projects using BIM and use these skills to present our work effectively.

We value the place architectural education holds in the industry and work closely with universities to help students get to understand the challenges of the industry from both a project and a professional perspective. We like to nurture talented people and see them prosper within our studio environment.

Philosophy

We believe that architects today need to be more agile than ever before. With the need to minimise the resources used and deliver inspired, delightful spaces we understand this requires a number of skills traditionally outside the role of the architect. We founded our practice on the belief that we must allow other voices to speak as well as our own, whilst still maintaining leadership and control over the design process. This requires humility, an ability to listen and a clear intellectual vision. Skills we possess as architects in astudio.

We use technology to help us understand the macro and micro scale impact of our designs, whether looking at new buildings or interventions into old structures. We work hard to make sure our projects offer more than our clients expect, and to do this we continually research and develop our skills, to make sure we are leaders within the industry.

Services

Planning Consultancy
We are able to offer a complete design and planning service, enabling a holistic approach to providing a client with a path through the planning system.

Sustainability Consultancy
We have expertise to provide sustainability advice to projects. We understand the requirements of BREEAM, LEED and BEAM, and how they impact design.

Masterplanning
We understand the need for masterplanning from the scale of the city to the individual project. All our projects begin with a masterplan and enable our clients to continually develop their projects after our buildings are complete.

3d Visualisation
Our ability to all work in three dimensions allows us to provide a full 3d visualisation service including photorealistic images.

Architecture
We have skills to design projects from high rise towers to private houses, across all sectors and scales, from concept to completion. We are advocates of BIM alongside other innovative 3D software technologies.

Interior Architecture
We have the skills required to model interior spaces and present strong visions for the look and feel of internal fit outs

Sustainability

We believe sustainability should be embedded in everything we do. Our in house environmental engineering expertise allows us to begin the journey in the right direction, reducing the need for over-elaborate services systems, helping the end user lower their energy costs. Our use of high end design tools helps us analyse the impact our projects have on their context and help shape our philosophy on sustainability. Our clients enjoy the visual representation of our analysis, helping to make the decisions easy and more effective.

We collaborate with other leaders in the environmental design industry, and share our 3d CAD models to enable the design to be tested thoroughly before it is built. The use of technology here offers a great opportunity for us to better tune our buildings and use resources more efficiently. We believe that we each have a responsibility in order to share the resources equitably where we feel it will add to the quality of the project, and enjoy the diversity that this brings to our work. Above all we enjoy what we do, and as a result bring passion and dedication to work every day.

Meet the leadership team

The studio has very strong leadership. We have an approach to design that is underpinned with experience, allowing us to be both decisive through our own expertise and also dynamic due to our originality. We are delighted to have a team that have high achievements in the industry. Within our team we have RIBA Silver medal winners, top national students graduating from both their Part I and Part II qualifications. We are proud to be able to support Part II students in achieving their Part III Architectural qualification. The quality of our team is essential in delivering our high standard of design.

We are looking for people that are enthusiastic, talented, motivated and ambitious, with a sense of responsibility, pride in their work and a natural feel for design.
